Nepal's Rural Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Programme Begins
2009-11-19
The Rural Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Sector Development Programme (RRRSDP) of Nepal is designed to reduce rural poverty in hill, mountain, and terai (lowlands) districts where isolation and hardship are common.
It focuses on immediate post conflict development priorities for accelerated poverty reduction and inclusive development. It will improve connectivity, enhance economic and employment opportunities and increase access to market and social services by rural communities.
The programme, which runs until end of 2011 with a total cost of US$106.8m, incorporates 60 rural road schemes, nearly 600 water supply schemes and 130 trail bridges. The management of which will be devolved to local District and Village authorities.
