Funding and Project News from GRSP 2008-05-11 The Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) has announced a further three year agreement with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) for support to GRSP core activities 2008 – 2010. Sida will contribute SEK 3 million per annum (approx USD 470,000 pa) to the GRSP core budget.
In addition the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF) has confirmed a grant to GRSP of USD 780,000 from October 2007 to the end of 2008. This grant will support GRSP’s continuing role in developing, disseminating and using the road safety good practice manuals being developed under the auspices of the UN road safety collaboration. The new GRSF grant will also fund the development of a helmet wearing action plan and project in Burkina Faso based on the WHO Helmet Manual. GRSP anticipates that this will form the first component of a broader regional road safety programme in Francaphone West Africa.
As a direct result of the GRSI-funded helmet programme in ASEAN, the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) administered by the World Bank, has agreed to fund GRSP to implement a community helmet wearing programme in Thailand. The 2 year programme will commence in late 2007 with a budget of USD 834,000.
