Sustainable Road Financing & Investment
2007-07-04

Most developing countries depend on traditional sources of road financing and investment within which the funding for road construction and maintenance is usually inadequate and unsustainable. To address this challenge countries implement various initiatives such as the establishment of road funds and toll road systems, yet funding inefficiencies remain.

An International Seminar 'Sustainable Road Financing and Investment', held in Arusha Tanzania from 16-20 April 2007, aimed to facilitate the exchange of new approaches to:

  • road construction and maintenance financing.
  • long term investment planning.
  • macro economic impact of road investment with particular regard to achieving the Millennium Devlopment Goals and poverty alleviation strategies.

187 participants from 36 countries included road sector policy and decision makers, development partners, practitioners, contractors, consultants, researchers and academia, students, road users and other interested parties.

The papers from the Seminar are now available online at: www.roadsfundtz.org/web/seminar.html
